
Lt. Lou Ann Karam is the Commander of Campus Operations and Bike Patrol of the SAISD Police Department. A 18 year law enforcement veteran, she began her career with the San Antonio Airport Police before joining the San Antonio School District Police Department in September of 1990.
Lt. Karam earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications at Loyola University in New Orleans. She holds a Master Peace Officer Certificate and a Police Instructor license through TCLEOSE (Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education). She is currently enrolled in the Leadership Command College at the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas.
After serving with the SAISD Police campus and patrol divisions, Lt. Karam spent 10 years as a Police Instructor and Training Coordinator for the Department. While serving as Training Coordinator she acted as Department liaison with local law enforcement academies as well as with TCLEOSE. In addition Lt. Karam established the Department’s current FTO (field training officer) Program.
Lt. Karam was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in November of 2002. In May of 2004 she was promoted to her current rank of Lieutenant, where she developed and implemented the Department’s Narcotics Canine Team and Traffic Unit. Lt. Karam currently oversees the Campus Operations Division and Bike Patrol Unit.
