How did the Mexican people influence the culture and traditions of Texas? Students will find out as they study The Empresario System. By examining the role of Texas in the Mexican War for Independence, students will gain knowledge of the impact Mexico had on the development of Texas.

Students will also identify the accomplishments and economic motivations of significant empresarios including Stephen F. Austin and Martin de Léon. As cultural anthropologists and geographers, students will explain how geographic factors played a role in the clusters and settlement patterns in Texas during different time periods.
