How did conflict lead to change in Texas? Our students will use the tools of historians, geographers, and economists as they explore the impact of the Civil War in Texas in the unit of study titled, Texas During the Civil War and Reconstruction. Students will explore the reason Texas joined the Confederacy and how the war influenced settlement patterns and economic activities, including the free enterprise system.

Students will analyze how immigrants to Texas benefitted from the free enterprise system. Students will discover information about the origins of Juneteenth and how Texas changed socially, economically, and politically during the period of Reconstruction.
