Parent Connections for Social Studies - Fourth Grade Semester 2 - Settling the Frontier

Why do people seek adventure and journey to new places? Students will answer this question and others as they begin an inquiry titled, Settling the Texas Frontier. Students will explain the cattle industry’s growth and development as well as learn about the contributions of Charles Goodnight, Richard King, and Lizzie Johnson.

Students will identify the impact of the railroads on Texas and how changes in Texas affected Indian life. Students will also describe and explain how and why people modified and adapted to their environment and how those modifications positively and negatively impacted the Texas environment.
