Parent Connections for Social Studies - Eighth Grade Semester 2 - Sectionalism

In Sectionalism – Growing Division, students will explore those issues dividing the United States prior to the Civil War.

A comparison of the effects of political, economic, and social factors on slaves and free blacks will be a focus of this unit to include the Missouri Compromise, the southern plantation system, the northern industrial economy, and the impact of slavery on different sections of the United States.

Students will also read about the leaders of these sections and find out their beliefs, especially on States' Rights
