Parent Connections for Social Studies - Eighth Grade Semester 2 - Reconstruction

In this unit of study, Reconstruction – Rebuilding the Union, students will evaluate legislative reform programs of the Radical Reconstruction Congress and reconstructed state governments.

Students will investigate the impact of the election of Hiram Rhodes Revels, the first African American senator. Students will describe the impact of the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments on life in the United States.

Finally, students will explain the economic, political, and social problems during Reconstruction, and identify the effects of legislative acts such as the Homestead Act, the Dawes Act, and the Morrill Act.
