1. The attendance rate for all SAISD students will improve from 94.15% in 1996-97 to
95% in 1997-98.
The attendance rate declined slightly from 94.0% in 1994-1995 to 93.9 percent in 1995-1996, and
then rose to 94.15 percent in 1996-1997. In 1997-98, the attendance rate went down slightly to
94.1 percent. These were minor changes, and we did not meet our attendance objective of 95.0
percent for the 1997-1998 school year.
The district calendar was designed with attendance as a top priority. Individual days with a
probable high absentee rate were identified from past records in an effort to increase our
attendance rate. These days were used as staff development days and holidays. The calendar was
also coordinated with surrounding school districts in San Antonio to facilitate attendance for
children in SAISD who have parents working in other districts as well as employees with children
attending schools in the San Antonio area. The declining rate of student attendance in the spring
term has a major impact on the overall student attendance rate.
2. Decline of the dropout rate for all SAISD students
