Student Achievement

Our TAAS data indicates that student achievement needs to improve on all tests and especially in mathematics. We must continue to attend to mathematics education, emphasizing middle and high school instruction and performance. We must also continue to develop and implement instructional approaches which integrate reading and writing, problem-solving strategies, and creative and critical reasoning across the curriculum. While we reduced our dropout rate again during the past year, we need to remain vigilant (especially with regard to White students) and continue to implement the recommendations of the dropout prevention action plan. Student attendance improved slightly last year and we must work at the District and campus levels to magnify that gain. We need to combine traditional and creative ways of fostering attendance and reducing student dropouts.
