Professional Development
To improve student achievement we need to improve the way we deliver instruction, our
implementation of instructional programs, the programs to provide direct services to students,
technology access and support in the classroom, and our professional and staff development
training. We need to continue to develop our infrastructure for professional development with
assistance from the Rockefeller Foundation, use outside technical assistance to improve training
and instruction, and support the partnership with the New American Schools so that individual
campuses can adopt and implement one of its designs. Monies from the Dana Center and the
National Science Foundation's Urban Systemic Initiative will help reform mathematics, science,
and technology education. The publication of a resource guide listing all staff development
opportunities at the District level is a significant improvement in the communication of the District
offerings.
