Parent and Community Involvement
We need to increase and strengthen the involvement of parents, businesses, and the community in
our schools and the District. Some of the major activities in this area are to focus parent training
on helping children in their academic, emotional, and social growth; expand the family/student
support and the adult education programs in the District; and to expand mentoring and
partnership programs in our schools. We also need to continue to provide the educational
alternatives program to recover student dropouts, increase adult participation in the community
education program, and facilitate the services of parent and community volunteers in the schools
and the District. The Parent Academy, parent helpline, quarterly community newsletter, monthly
town hall meetings, and the conflict resolution training and services are all activities that need to
be continued. The Parent and Community Partnership Network should continue to serve as an
advocate for parents and community members and ensure that we improve and expand our
communication and collaboration with them.
