Appropriate School Facilities
The fifth goal in the superintendent's vision for change will not be addressed in the District Improvement Plan. A short summary of recent developments surrounding this goal, however, is appropriate. In the fall of 1996 the School Board hired an architectural firm to update the 1992 facilities needs assessment. The Board also established a Citizen's Advisory Committee of community members who gathered information, held bus tours of our facilities, and reviewed the new facilities needs assessment. On its recommendation to call a bond election, the School Board on July 28, 1997, unanimously voted to hold a bond election on September 27, 1997 to issue $483 million in bonds to improve school facilities throughout the District. Voters approved the bond proposal, and the District is currently involved in construction projects which will eventually bring improvements to every District school.
