| The Technology Office
can assist you in determining if a problem with your system is hardware
or software related. We will first attempt to assist you over the
phone at the Helpdesk, 281-9090, and if necessary we will send someone
on site to examine your system. To have a computer or printer repaired,
you need to contact one of the vendors.
We do support the following hardware: Pentium class personal computers
running the Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows XP operating systems, Apple Macintosh
computers that are the Power Mac class running Mac OS System 7 or
later, and hardware peripherals (printers, scanners, etc.) for either
of the above two listed platforms.
We do not support workstations with the
following operating systems:
- DOS
- Unix
- OS/2, ·
- Windows 3.1
- Windows NT
- Windows 95
Please note that in addition
to the above requirements we only support systems that carry an
SAISD Fixed Assets inventory tag. We are unable to provide support
for any computer that is not tagged.
If you are not sure whether or not your system meets the above
support requirements, you can contact the Technical Support Hotline
for assistance. We recommend that you not invest in repairing or
upgrading systems which do not meeting the above requirements; instead,
begin thinking about replacing these machines for the following
reasons:
- they are not able
to adequately manage any type of multimedia capabilities necessary
for educational software applications;
- they do not support
Internet access;
- and, on the IBM compatible
side, these systems may not be Year 2000 compliant.
Network Support
The Networking Division provides support in maintaining and expanding
the capabilities of our Novell based network. They are also responsible
for connectivity to Region 20. Networking oversees contracted installation
of new local area networks and expansion of existing networks. If
you want additional connections to the District's wide area network
(WAN) or a local area network (LAN) installation, place your request
through the Technical Support Hotline, 281-9090.
We do provide the following network support:
- Ethernet networks
and components, 10 BaseT and 100 BaseT,
- Novell file servers
installed by the Networking Division,
- MS Windows NT servers
installed by the Networking Division,
- Internet access through
the SAISD WAN.
We currently provide
the following as needed only where network access is unavailable
to District employee network support:
- Network dial-in access
of any kind.
