The SAISD Board of Trustees has called for a $515 million bond election for November 2, 2010. The funds would pay for renovations to schools across the district—where some buildings are more than 100 years old, and almost half are more than 50 years old.
Aging facilities create challenges, as major systems need to be repaired or replaced. The bond would address infrastructure repairs for a number of schools, as well as classroom additions and upgrades to meet current standards for instructional environments.
Also included in the proposal are campus safety, security and technology enhancements, new or renovated space for career and vocational programs, new playground equipment and athletic tracks, and the renovation of Alamo Stadium and Convocation Center.
Culinary students are busy at work. The Bond 2010 provides for new or upgraded facilities for high school career programs.
Alamo Stadium has hosted marching shows and football games since 1940. Renovations would bring the Stadium to a quality comparable to neighboring district stadiums.
Renovations at 22 schools include classroom additions and upgrades and infrastructure repairs.
Campuses would receive new computers to replace obsolete equipment, providing students with increased access to technology.
A modern playground at Mission Academy provides a fun recreation area for children at play.
