Sandra Tapia is responsible for the San Antonio Independent School District high school girls athletic program

She was born and raised in San Antonio, attended St. Mary Magdalen Elementary and Middle School, and graduated from Providence High School.  She received a softball scholarship to St. Mary’s University from which she received her B.A. degree in English and Physical Education.  She obtained her Masters Degree and Educational Administration Certification from Texas A&M – Kingsville. 

Sandra began her teaching and coaching career in SAISD at John G. Whittier Middle School in 1983.  In 1985, she was hired at H. B. Zachry Middle School in the NSISD where she taught English and P. E. and coached volleyball, basketball and track.  In 1988 she moved up to Taft High School in the NSISD.  In her nine years there, she led the Taft girl’s track team to three consecutive district championships, one regional championship and had state qualifiers every year.  She was named Track Coach of the year in 1994 by the Express and News and selected as Track Coach of the year by the Texas Girls Coaches Association in 1996.  She became a Vice Principal in 1997 at Holmgreen Jr./Sr. High School, and moved to John Marshall High School as Assistant Principal from 1999-2005. 

Sandra is thrilled to be back in SAISD and hopes that her knowledge, experience and passion in both athletics and administration will be an asset to her position.
