            The SAISD Early Childhood Education Department welcomes you to our website. We hope that the information included in this website will be helpful as you work with children, parents and the community.
             
            The SAISD Early Childhood student centered, developmentally appropriate program strives to provide young children with the developmental skills necessary to create a strong foundation for future success through a collaborative effort with families, communities and related agencies. We believe that a high-quality early childhood program is a major step toward improving children&amp;rsquo;s lives. 
             
            Student eligibility for Prekindergarten Programs
            Texas Education Code, Section 29.153(a) requires school districts to offer a prekindergarten program if the district identifies 15 or more eligible children who are at least four years of age. A student meets the eligibility criteria if he/she:
             
            
                is unable to speak and comprehend the English language;
                is educationally disadvantaged.
                is homeless, as defined by 42 U.S.C. Section 11302;
                is the child of an active duty member of the armed forces of the U.S., including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who is ordered to active duty by proper authority;
                is or ever has been in the conservatorship of the Department of Family Protective Services following an adversary hearing held as provided by Section 262.201, Family Code.
            
             
            Educationally disadvantaged prekindergarten students are defined by the Agency as students eligible to participate in the national free or reduced-price lunch program; 
             
            Requisitos de Elegibilidad para el programa de Pre-Kinder
            Para poder ser aceptado(a) en el programa de Pre-Kindergarten, el ni&amp;ntilde;o(a) debe tener tres o cuatro a&amp;ntilde;os de edad el primero de septiembre o antes (C&amp;oacute;digo de Educaci&amp;oacute;n de Texas 29.153) 
            
                tener un dominio limitado del ingl&amp;eacute;s
                estar acad&amp;eacute;micamente en desventaja - cumplir con los requisitos para participar en el Programa Nacional de Almuerzo en la escuela
                no tener hogar
                ser hijo(a) de un miembro de las fuerzas armadas de Estados Unidos, incluyendo las fuerzas militares estatales o un componente de las reservas de las fuerzas armadas, que fue herido o muerto mientras estaba en servicio activo, que provenga de una familia en la que el padre o el tutor oficial est&amp;aacute; en  servicio activo , integrante del personal militar o que el padre/tutor haya sido muerto mientras estaba en servicio activo
                que haya estado en una curadur&amp;iacute;a (cuidado temporal) del Departamento de familia y servicios de protecci&amp;oacute;n - Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS, por sus siglas en ingl&amp;eacute;s) seguida de una audiencia de contrapartes
            
             
             
            Desventaja educacional&amp;rdquo; significa que el ni&amp;ntilde;o es elegible para participar en el programa nacional de comida gratis o reducida establecido bajo 42 U. S. C. S. la secci&amp;oacute;n 1751 et. seq.
