SAISD Assistant Dir. Environmental Programs
Environmental Lead (Based-Paint)
- Homes, commercial and public buildings (including schools) built before 1978 have lead-based paint
- Many of our older facilities contain lead-based paint (LBP)
- Disturbing LBP, especially during renovation, repair and painting projects can release dangerous levels of lead dust
- SAISD maintenance uses the EPA “lead safe” techniques to eliminate or minimize LBP dust during renovation, repair and painting projects.
See the Environmental lead Q&A for additional information.
Technical Assistance and Training
- Technical assistance and training is available for a wide range of issues such as asbestos, hazard communication, “lead safe” procedures, etc. Training Handouts and other materials are available from the Environmental Programs Office.
Demolition
- Demolition of structures (on bond purchased land) not sold at auction are demolished under the guidance of Environmental Programs. Prior to demolition, structures are inspected and all asbestos-containing material (ACM) is removed by a Texas DSHS licensed contractor.
