Services Available
Grant Development & Administration is responsible for providing the SAISD with the opportunity to participate in grant programs through federal, state, local, and private sources. Assistance is provided in the following ways:
- Identifying funding sources and opportunities;
- Developing grants through custom-designed technical assistance;
- Facilitating design team meetings;
- Monitoring grant projects and assisting project managers;
- Providing a central location for development and dissemination of grants information;
- Assisting with grant compliance for federal, state, and other funding; and
- Distributing updates to Cabinet members, keeping them informed of recently awarded programs, proposals under development, and upcoming

The Scorecard
The Grants Department has initiated a new grant monitoring system that will allow grant program managers to evaluate grant progress through the use of the Scorecard. The Scorecard is a rubric that evaluates grant programs in the areas of:1) Knowledge of Grant Program, 2) Grant Budget, 3) Documentation and Communication, 4) Evaluation, 5) Collaboration, and 6) Timeline.The Scorecard is completed every nine weeks: October 21st, January 20th, March 30th, and June 6th.The Scorecard can be accessed by clicking on the following link:http://www.saisd.net/dept/grants/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=40&Itemid=61
Grants Awarded 2011-2012
Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP)-$27.1 Million for seven years-in partnership with Harlandale ISD. Texas Title 1 Priority Schools Grant-Navarro Academy and Davis Middle School
King William Association Grant-Page Middle School was awarded $5,000 for the library and Bonham Academy was awarded two grants for the library and a technology project.
Secondary Math Teacher Support Grant- $250,000- 2011-2012 Project SMART is a High School Algebra I program that provides intensive content enrichment for Algebra I teachers in SAISD high schools.
Public Charter Schools Grant: Travis Early College High School, Rhodes Middle School, and Highland Park Elementary School were awarded $500,000 each for start-up costs for their new internal charter schools.
Online College Preparation and Technical Assistance Grant-$97,000-Brackenridge High School was awarded this one year grant to provide students with access to online college information and resources.
Algebra Readiness Grant CY 2-Poe Middle School, Lowell Academy, Longfellow Middle School, Davis Middle School, Rhodes Middle School, and Tafolla Middle School- The Algebra Readiness grant provides students with access to the Texas Instrument MathForward program along with graphing calculators and intensive support as they work towards readiness for the demands of Algebra I. Funds for the Algebra Readiness Grant comes from the Texas Education Agency. The purpose of the grant is to assist students and teachers as they transition from the Math TAKS to the Algebra I End Of Course (EOC) exam.
Cowden Foundation Grant-Maverick Elementary School-The Cowden Foundation awarded $15,000 for Maverick Elementary for their technology pilot project, DragonsNet.
Dollar General Library Grant-Maverick Elementary School-Dollar General Foundation awarded $5,000 to Maverick Elementary for their library program.
Laura Bush Foundation Grant-Nelson Elementary School and Rhodes Middle School-The Laura Bush Library grant provides $6,000 for the library to purchase books to enhance students' learning.
Target Field Trip Grants-Baskin, Ogden, Hillcrest, and Arnold Elementary Schools, each school was awarded $800 to pay for transportation and admission fees for an educational field trip.

Promising Neighborhoods Grant-district wide
Texas Title 1 Priority Schools Grant-Fox Tech and Sam Houston High Schools-This grant is funded by the Texas Education Agency and provides funding for complete school reform.
College Readiness for Middle School Students Grant- Whittier Academy-This grant provides middle school students with access to the AVID program and strategies, to enhance college awareness, provide for college field trips for students, and prepare students through the use of the AVID program to be ready for college.
