San Antonio ISD is a member of the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS). TRS provides a pension plan in which employees participate. Tax Sheltered Annuities 403(b)
San Antonio ISD participates in Tax Sheltered Annuity programs for it's employees. A Tax Sheltered Annuity (TSA) is a personal retirement plan available only to employees of non-profit organizations such as school districts. Premiums for these plans are taken out before taxes. By making contributions to a TSA with "before tax" dollars, employees get the benefit of investing not only their money but also tax money that otherwise would be sent to the IRS. Social Security Benefits
San Antonio ISD does participate in Social Security. This is an added benefit to SAISD employees; when eligible they will collect Social Security benefits and Teacher Retirement benefits. Government Pension Offset is a law that affects spouses and widows or widowers. If you receive a pension from a federal, state or local government based on work where you did not pay Social Security taxes, your Social Security spouse's or widow's or widower's benefits may be reduced. Windfall Elimination Provision affects how the amount of your retirement or disability benefit is calculated if you receive a pension from work where Social Security taxes were not taken out of your pay.
