What is Mentoring?
Mentoring is a sustained relationship between a novice teacher and an experienced teacher that serves to provide help, support, and information with which the novice teacher can grow professionally.
Why Mentor?
The purpose of the New Teacher Support System (NTSS) is to provide one-to-one mentor teacher pairings to promote teachers' professional growth in curricula and classroom management, and to retain talented individuals who serve all SAISD students at the highest level.
Who Can Mentor?
Any SAISD teacher with three (3) or more years of teaching experience and a desire to help others grow professionally is eligible to mentor first-year and second-year teachers.
What Kind of Mentor Training is Required?
The Office for Professional Learning offers required courses for all mentor teachers. Attendance of Mentorship 1.1 and Mentorship 1.2 is required of all mentors of first-year teachers. Also, mentors of second-year teachers are required to attend Mentorship 2.1 and Mentorship 2.2 training. More information about course availability can be found on the ePATH course registration system.
