What are the 5 Levels of Evaluation of Professional Learning? PDF Print

The 5 Levels of Evaluation of Professional Learning are used to judge the effectiveness of adult training toward the goal of using it to help students achieve.  They are ordered from simple to complex, with each level builiding on the one that comes before it.  The 5 Levels are:

Level 1:  Participants' Reactions

Did they like it?  Was the room comfortable?  Was time well spent?

Level 2:  Participants' Learning

Did participants acquire the intended knowledge and skills?

Level 3:  Organizational Support and Change

What was the impact of the training on the organization?  Did it affect organizational climate and procedures?

Level 4:  Participants' Use of New Knowledge and Skills

Did participants effectively apply the new knowledge and skills?

Level 5:  Student Learning Outcomes

What was the impact on students?Did it affect student performance or achievement?
