State Compensatory Education (SCE) is defined in law as programs and/or services that supplement the regular education program for students who have been identified as at-risk of dropping out of school; thus, increasing the academic achievement and reducing the drop out rate of these identified students. Senate Bill 702 requires school districts to identify, provide appropriate services, and document and evaluate the effectiveness of the SCE program. House Bill 3459 requires that District and Campus Improvement plans be the primary record that supports the expenditures of the SCE program.

SAISD adheres to the state at-risk criteria and guidelines by providing compensatory, intensive, and accelerated instructional services for students under the age of 21 identified as at-risk of dropping out of school as addressed in Section 29,081 of the Texas Education Code.
