Welcome to the Literacy Departmental web page of the San Antonio Independent School District. The information included on this website is a resource to support the teachers, administrators and parents of SAISD.
Our Mission is to transform SAISD into a national model urban school district where every child graduates and is educated so that he or she is prepared to be a contributing member of the community.
The Literacy Department of SAISD supports a balanced, comprehensive and research-based instructional model. This model provides grade level content standards and emphasizes the importance of differentiated instruction, high expectations, interactive approaches and flexible grouping to support student performance. These instructional approaches are combined with ongoing, systematic assessment of student learning.
SAISD LITERACY FRAMEWORK
A variety of strategic supports for teaching and learning have been developed. These tools include yearly at-a-glance guides, nine weeks at-a-glance documents and unit instructional curriculum guides. These tools may be found on SAISD intranet under the reading teacher toolkit.
