Edison HS mass casualty exercise helps students hone career skills

Edison HS hosted its third annual mass casualty exercise, involving students, staff and city police, fire and rescue personnel, May 19. The event, designed to help students in a number of magnet programs hone their career skills, involved simulated explosions and city first-responders working side-by-side students to assist mock victims, who were played by student actors. HawthorneOpenwebParents, students and community members showed up in numbers May 26 to take in the newly renovated Hawthorne Academy, which features a new, colorful 3-story building that includes new science labs. In addition, the $22.7 million in renovations includes new spaces for the fine arts program, among other upgrades made under Bond 2010.
