Azael Preciado, a Lanier HS architecture student beat out some 6,000 entries citywide to win Best of Show in the 2012 VIA Youth Art Contest: “Next Stop Design S. A.”  His design will now be featured on VIA buses across the city. 

Maverick ES 3rd-graders try on costumes representing professions that they might want to someday pursue. The dress-for-success opportunity was part of Career Week observances.

Young Women’s Leadership Academy Advisory Committee Chairperson Jimmie Ruth Evans presented a white rose to an inductee during the school’s White Rose Induction ceremony on May 15.

Some 200 7th-graders were recognized during a May 15 ceremony for taking the SAT college-entrance exam along with high school students under the Duke University Talent Identification Program.

Maverick ES 1st-graders serve up a delectable selection of books to kindergartners for  the school’s transformation into the Reading Restaurant. The older students also read to their younger classmates.

Lanier HS Police Explorers program student Joe Pena accepts the Sam J. Riklin Diploma Plus Scholarship from Rotary Club of San Antonio board members.

A Sea World San Antonio employee, with a red-ruffed lemur on his shoulder, visited Harris Middle School for Career Day on May 14 to talk to students about the variety of careers they could pursue, such as endangered animal care.

The Madison ES cheerleaders are joined by those from Jefferson HS, Lassos and the Mustang’s mascot at a pep rally encouraging victory on the new STAAR exam.

Celebrating their first-place finish at St. Mary University’s 50th Annual Fiesta Jazz Festival is the Jefferson HS Jazz ensemble. Michael Pompa (seated center, third row) was awarded a $10,000 scholarship as 4A best performer.
