District 2 Trustee James Howard learns from Wheatley Community School facilitator Juan Rocha about the Google Chromebooks that are a part of the school’s new technology lab, sponsored by Google Fiber. The new space opened during a special ceremony May 25 and is now open for community use, including for students, Monday-Friday from 5 p.m.- 9p.m. The new lab also will facilitate technology literacy classes for the community. Wheatley Community School is located on the campus of Wheatley Middle School, 415 Gabriel St.
More than 1,000 people turned out on Saturday for the 3rd annual SAISD Science Fair & Expo at the Alamo Convocation Center. The event, which featured science projects created by students in kindergarten through 5th grades, included the judging of the projects, student interviews conducted by secondary teachers and department chairs, a student exploration period where participants studied other projects (pictured here) to see what they might have done differently and an awards celebration.
