SAISD students rake in medals at regional history and state Academic Decathlon competitions

SAISD students’ creativity and brainpower put them in the spotlight this past weekend for performances at two separate competitions Feb. 27-28 – the San Antonio Regional History Day competition that involved students from Bonham Academy, Burbank HS and Young Women’s Leadership Academy and the state Academic Decathlon competition, where students from Sam Houston competed. StewartcavwebJasmine, a 2nd-grader at Stewart ES, was recognized March 4 for her artwork, which placed first in City Council District 2 of the Texas Cavaliers River Parade poster contest. District winners receive a one-week scholarship to attend the Southwest School of Art’s summer art camp and their schools each will get $3,000 for art supplies. woodlawnscienceWoodlawn Academy hosted a Math & Science Family Night on March 3 that drew hundreds of parents to learn with their children that those subjects can be fun. The event featured a variety of activities, including using digital microscopes, as shown here.
