SAISD Superintendent to host community meetings about blueprint

San Antonio ISD Superintendent Pedro Martinez will host eight community meetings, including one in Spanish, to outline the strategies and programs that the District will use to ensure that many more of SAISD’s 53,000 students are performing at higher levels. AlcoaSamwebMembers of the Sam Houston High School Robotics Team had a chance Feb. 10 to tap the expertise of volunteers from Alcoa, a global leader in lightweight metals technology, engineering and manufacturing, in building a robot for an upcoming competition. The four-hour event ended with dinner and career talk.




BurtonatBowdenwebNot only were Bowden ES school students treated this morning to a reading of actor and literacy advocate Levar Burton’s children’s book  “The Rhino Who Swallowed a Storm” – the reading was by the actor himself. In addition to his roles in productions including “Roots” and “Star Trek,” the Emmy- and Grammy-winning Burton is known for hosting the PBS program “Reading Rainbow,” which ran from 1983 until 2009 and continues online.
