DouglasparachutewebSan Antonio Fire Chief Charles Hood, a mentor at and supporter of Douglass ES, joined the school’s 4th- and 5th-grade science classes Sept. 30 to test their ingenuity and creativeness. The students were tasked with building a parachute that would protect an egg from breaking upon impact. San Antonio Fire Department firefighters tested the students’ designs by dropping their parachutes from a ladder truck.




INSPIRE Innovative winnersThree SAISD educators were honored at the 6th annual INSPIRE Awards, a fundraising event of the SAISD Foundation, held Sept. 29 at the
Henry B. Gonzalez Center. Winners of the Innovation Award are, from left, Danielle A. Eisele-Elizondo, 1st-grade teacher at Hirsch ES, and the educator team of Laura Servin, formerly a Whittier MS math teacher and now a consulting teacher for the District, and Winslow Phillips, a Whittier MS math teacher. The Young Men’s Leadership Academy also won in the School/Program/Initiative category.
