What: Transportation safety-training extravaganza
Transportation staff get a head start on preparing for the coming school year with a multi-station safety-training event designed to help
drivers prepare for any unknowns on the road. The event is in addition to the regular training held throughout the school year – which for
SAISD bus drivers is 30-35 hours above the state requirement.
Event partners include: The American Heart Association, San Antonio Fire Department, Union Pacific, Operation Lifesaver and Crisis
Who: 200+ bus drivers, bus assistants and bus monitors
Where: SAISD Transportation site: 418 Roland Ave.
When: June 5 (Monday) – 8:30-11 a.m.
The event will feature 10 hands-on exercises in specially-staged areas to include real fires for fire extinguisher training, mass evacuation in smoke-filled buses, CPR and first aid.
Drivers will rotate among the stations every 20-30 minutes.
Transportation staff will return in early August for their annual four-day back-to-school training and the start of the new school year.
