Champs: Battle of the brains

Headed back to the Texas Academic Decathlon is Sam Houston HS.

The team qualified for state based on performance at the Region IV contest. Also competing from the District were Advanced Learning Academy, Brackenridge, Burbank, Edison, Fox Tech, Highlands, Jefferson, Lanier, Travis and YWLA.

The SAISD teams competed against other Region IV medium schools such as Boerne Champion and Alamo Heights high schools.

Sam Houston placed first overall in addition to taking top honors in the team Super Quiz.

Also ranking were Travis coming in fourth, Lanier coming in fifth and Burbank coming in sixth. YWLA took second in the team Super Quiz. Individual students also earned medals.

This is the seventh time in nine years that the Hurricanes have qualified for the state meet, which will be held Feb. 22-25 in Frisco.
