Initial screening interviews will be held for fully-certified educators and teacher candidates enrolled in alternative certification programs qualified to teach pre-kinder to grade 5, or for one of the District’s pre-kinder to grade 8 academies. Applicants may park free nearby at SAISD’s Central Office lot, 141 Lavaca St. The application process begins online at www.saisd.net.

10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Young Women’s Leadership Academy, 2123 W. Huisache Ave.
Parents of special needs children Districtwide and their families can enjoy games, music, arts and crafts, face painting and food and beverages. Community agencies will be available to answer questions and provide information about the services they offer.

Speakers will include District 7 Trustee Ed Garza, District 7 City Councilmember Justin Rodriguez, San Antonio Spurs and Rampage teams announcer Mike Lavender, and former Silver Star player Tai Dillard.

3 to 6 p.m. at Maverick Elementary School, 107 Raleigh St. at Babcock Road
Representatives from a variety of college and universities will provide students and their families information on higher education options.

5:30 p.m. at the Fox Tech High School music facility, 637 N. Main Ave.
District 1 Trustee Rubén Cuero will present an overview of the state of the district, and on the first phase of SAISD’s long‐range improvement plans. This is one in a series of community meetings the District’s seven School Board members are hosting on this topic.
May 26 (Wed) — S.A. police chief to administer Boy Scouts of America oath
6 p.m. at Wilson Elementary School, 1421 Clower St.
William McManus and military dignitaries will officially usher 25 Cub Scouts into the next phase of service to their country as Boy Scouts. This is Wilson’s inaugural group of members into the youth organization advocating responsible citizenship, character development, and self-reliance through participation in outdoor activities and educational programs. Refreshments will be served by Lanier High School culinary arts students.
May 27 (Thurs) — Miss Anastasia’s ‘Wild Thing’ Story time
8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Maverick ElementarySchool, 107 Raleigh St. at Babcock Road
The Twig Book Store storyteller will encourage pre-kinder through 2nd-graders to get wild about summer reading.
May 27 (Thurs) — ‘Binary Girlz’ Technology Summit
9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Young Women’s Leadership Academy, 2123 W. Huisache Ave.
Students at San Antonio’s only all-girls public school will celebrate their studies on women in technology by demonstrating their own technological projects on a variety of subjects ranging from medicine to fitness and fashion.
May 27 (Thurs) — Second Annual Technology Fair
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at De Zavala Elementary School, 2311 San Luis St.
Projects exemplifying the ways technology is integrated into the traditional classroom curriculum will be presented.
May 27 (Thurs) — Positive Behavior Support Pep Rally
1 p.m. at Schenck Elementary School, 101 Kate Schenck Ave.
Students and staff who have had perfect attendance will be recognized. Other awards will be presented to students “caught being good,” and to service groups such as patrol, peer mediation and PALS – Peer Assistance Leadership members. Principal Donna Finch will make good on her incentive to encourage perfect attendance by kissing a goat, while counselors will submit to being drenched in dunking booths at the hands of students who have never been absent.
May 27 (Thurs) — Rising Star New Teacher Award Ceremony
4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Jefferson High School, 723 Donaldson Ave.
Awards will be given to three outstanding first-year teachers, each representing elementary, middle and high school-level. The trio will be chosen by the superintendent from nominees first selected by their principals and then evaluated by a District committee.
May 27 (Thurs) — All That Style Fashion Show
7 p.m. at Jefferson High School, 723 Donaldson Ave.
On the catwalk will be models attired in collections by tomorrow’s top designers. More than 100 student-created garments - from casual to chic - will be shown. The highlight will be collections from eight seniors, each crafted to reflect their creator’s unique personalities and style. The annual show is under the direction of Sandy Starr, Fashion Design Magnet Program teacher. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for children under 12 and those under 5 will be admitted free.
5:30 to 8 p.m. at Page Middle School, 401 Berkshire Ave.
A luau-themed extravaganza will feature fun, games, food booths, and dancing. Guest of honor will be a pig. But instead of Hawaiian tradition where he would be the main course, the pet porker will pucker up for a smooch from a teacher selected by student votes for this privilege. Music will be provided by “DJ Easy Does It,” and representatives from a variety of service providers including the San Antonio Fire and Police departments, Mc Gruff the crime-fighting canine, the Sylvan Learning Center, United Way, and VIA mascot Buster will offer information. The fair is in partnership with the Presa Youth Center, and is free, and open to the public.
