SAISD launched a recruitment campaign to help fill bus driver openings needed for the school year. On June 17, the District released its version of the "Chicken Dance" with video and radio ads produced by HR and the District Communications office. A handful of Hawthorne Academy students sing rewritten lyrics to the beat of the "Chicken Dance" for the ad. Irving MS Mariachi students and the Twain MS Mariachi teacher play the instrumental beat of the "Chicken Dance."

Nearly 8,000 SAISD employees attended the District Convocation to kick off the 2012-2013 school year. The 2-hour event has been condensed to this 8-minute highlight video.

Fox Tech High School was named a National Blue Ribbon School in September, making it the only school in San Antonio and one of only 18 in Texas to earn the distinction. 

Athletic Director Gil Garza was inducted into the Texas High School Athletics Directors Association Hall of Honor in July. He is a 10-year SAISD veteran whose career spans nearly 40 years.

Jefferson High School earned the United Way of San Antonio’s Platinum Award, based on the schools’ employee contributions.
