Who:   Judge Mireles’ wife, Margaret Guzman Mireles; SAISD Superintendent Robert J. Durón; SAISD Board President James Howard; SAWS President & CEO Robert Puente; and St. Mary’s University School of Law Dean Charles Cantu.

More: The dedication of the Judge Andy Mireles Law Magnet will take place at Fox Tech High School. The event will begin with a performance by the Fox Tech Mariachis and will end with the unveiling of the new name - the Judge Andy Mireles Law Magnet Center.

Judge Mireles died in December of 2009 after spending decades addressing juvenile crime cases. He is single-handedly credited with changing the juvenile justice system in Bexar County by creating a docket that focused exclusively on juvenile crime issues and has been called the driving force behind the creation of the County’s child abuse and neglect court. His tireless efforts serving on the bench for more than 20 years and his reputation as a fair and compassionate judge are just a couple of the many reasons Fox Tech’s Law Magnet is being named in his honor. Judge Mireles also served as an SAISD trustee when he was elected to the school board in 1984.
