What: ‘I Am Beautiful’ presentation

When: This evening, Feb. 23 (Wed) – 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Where: Young Women’s Leadership Academy, 2123 W. Huisache

More: Students at San Antonio’s only all-girls public school will learn how to be beautiful inside and out through this holistic presentation. Maria Falcon, creator and director of the Victims Empowerment Counseling Program, will discuss ways to build their self images, boost their self esteems and stay safe.

Providing daily hygiene skin care and acne treatment pointers - as well as age appropriate makeup and other beauty tips - will be veteran film, TV and print makeup artists Cynthia Hancevic and Begoña De Ubieta. Stations will be set up where they can receive personalized lessons. The makeup products provided by Shiseido cosmetics will be available in samples for the young women to try at home. They also will be given mirrors on which they can paint affirmations such as “I Am Beautiful” as a reminder of what they have been taught.

Currently serving grades 6 to 9 and to grow to grade 12 by 2013-14, the Young Women’s Leadership Academy provides qualified students from throughout Bexar County with a college-preparatory education focusing on math, science, and technology, career development, and community involvement.
