June 4 (Sat) — Bilingual Literacy & Community Outreach Conference
8 a.m.to 1 p.m. at Rhodes Middle School, 3000 Tampico St.
The community is invited to attend this event targeted for pre-kinder through 12th-grade teachers, parents and families Award-winning children’s author Diane Gonzales Bertrand will provide storytelling tips, and there will be book giveaways for families. Workshops will be designed for both parents and educators. The conference is sponsored by the San Antonio Alliance, American Federation of Teachers and National Council of La Raza.
June 6 (Mon) — ‘Medal to the Pedal’ celebration
2 p.m. at Madison Elementary School, 2900 W. Woodlawn Ave.
District Attorney Susan Reed will join the celebration when about 75 students who had perfect attendance this school year are rewarded with bicycles donated by sponsors including Cavender Toyota.
June 6 (Mon) — Radio Disney wellness visit
2 to 2:45 p.m. at Douglass Elementary School, 318 Martin L. King Drive
Representatives from the popular radio network Radio Disney AM 1160 will present health and fitness tips.

Julián Castro will be keynote speaker as 8th-graders prepare for the next phase of their lives as high school freshmen this fall.

6 p.m. at Bonham Academy, 925 S. St. Mary’s St.
Patrons are invited to provide input to architects for master-planning efforts for the King William neighborhood school. This is part of the first series of design meetings to be held throughout June and July at each of the 23 schools receiving major renovations funded by the bond.

June 4-5 and June 8-11 — Clerkley Academy
Various times and locations, starting at the Center for Architecture, 200 E. Grayson St., suite 110
During week one of this two-week program, eight architecture students from SAISD’s Jefferson and Lanier high schools will tour sites and architecture firms throughout San Antonio in preparation of designing a proposed VIA Metropolitan Transit streetcar stop shelter for the Pearl Stable. The second week will be spent at Texas Tech University, which is sponsoring this learning opportunity. Upon their return, student projects will be presented at the Architecture Foundation.
June 8 thru Aug. 5 — Summer recreation
7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays at Baskin Elementary School, 630 Crestview Drive
Supervised recreational opportunities will be offered in partnership with the YMCA.
June 9 thru July 1 — ‘Seamless Summer Nutrition Program’
7 to 8 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. weekdays at participating SAISD campuses
Free breakfast and lunch are served to anyone 18 years old and younger. The federally-funded nutrition program is available to districts like SAISD in which large numbers of students receive free meals during the school year.
June 9-30 — Summer enrichment
8 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays at Irving Middle School, 1300 Delgado St.; Page Middle School, 401 Berkshire Ave.; Crockett Elementary School, 2215 Morales St.; Washington Elementary School, 1823 Nolan St.; and W.W. White Elementary School, 545 S. W.W. White Road
Supervised academic and enrichment opportunities including art, guitar lessons, Zumba dance, martial arts and field trips – some of which will be centered around a theme - will be offered in partnership with the Greater San Antonio All Stars.
June 9 thru July 1 — Summer enrichment
8 a.m. to noon weekdays at Huppertz Elementary School, 247 Bangor St.; Woodlawn Elementary School, 1717 W. Magnolia Ave.; and Woodlawn Hills Elementary School, 110 W. Quill Drive
Supervised academic and enrichment opportunities including art, guitar lessons, Zumba dance, martial arts and field trips – some of which will be centered around a theme - will be offered in partnership with the Greater San Antonio All Stars.
June 9 thru Aug. 12 — Summer recreation
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Jefferson High School, 723 Donaldson Ave.; and Lanier High School, 1514 W. Durango Blvd.
Supervised recreational opportunities for teens will be offered in partnership with the San Antonio Youth Centers.
