June 19 (Sun) — Presentation by SAISD high school architecture students
2 p.m. at the Architecture Foundation of San Antonio 200 E. Grayson St. Ste 100
Aspiring architects from SAISD’s Jefferson and Lanier high schools will present projects on a proposed VIA Metropolitan Transit streetcar stop shelter for the Pearl Complex. The designs were created during a two-week summer program that recently concluded at Texas Tech University’s School of Architecture Curtis Clerkey Academy.

Patrons are invited to provide input to architects for master-planning efforts for the following schools. These are among community meetings being held Districtwide for SAISD Bond 2010 projects now that the initial design phase is under way.

● June 21 (Tues) - Brackenridge High School, 400 Eagleland Drive at South St. Mary’s Street
● June 22 (Wed) - at Longfellow Middle School, 1130 E. Sunshine Drive

● June 23 (Thurs) - at Woodlawn Elementary School, 1717 W. Magnolia Ave.
● June 23 (Thurs) - at Sarah King Elementary School, 1001 Ceralvo St.
June 24 (Fri) — SAISD principal chosen a Silver Stars ‘Inspiring Woman’
7 p.m. game time at the A T & T Center, 1 AT&T Center
Jefferson High School principal Joanne Cockrell will be one of five outstanding area women recognized courtside during halftime of the Silver Stars’ contest with the L.A. Sparks. Preceding the game will be a 5:30 reception in their honor at the AT&T Center’s Terrace Restaurant.

Incoming seniors can select from the following learning opportunities as part of Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs, designed to help the class of 2012 be prepared for success in college and beyond. All camps will run Mondays through Thursdays.
● Culinary Science – 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and 12:30 to 4 p.m. at St. Phillips College, 1801 Martin Luther King Drive. Students are learning the fundamentals of sanitation, safety, and terminology for commercial food service establishments, and also are developing basic skills in utensil use, and food preparation.
● Aerodynamics of Flight – 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and 12:30 to 4 p.m. at the St. Phillips College Southwest Campus, 800 Quintana Road. Airplane models are used to provide an overview of the aerodynamics of flight with emphasis on physics, studying the forces that affect how aircraft flies, and in proving aerodynamic theories.
● Robotics/Nanotechnology – 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Northwest Vista College, 3535 N. Ellison Drive. Labs and other hands-on experiences, along with field trips and lectures, are making learning fun and relevant for students studying the manipulation of matter on an atomic and molecular scale. Projects include creating a solar array and LED light systems.

8 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays at Irving Middle School, 1300 Delgado St.; Page Middle School, 401 Berkshire Ave.; Crockett Elementary School, 2215 Morales St.; Washington Elementary School, 1823 Nolan St.; and W.W. White Elementary School, 545 S. W.W. White Road
Supervised academic and enrichment opportunities including art, guitar lessons, Zumba dance, martial arts and field trips – some of which will be centered around a theme - are offered in partnership with the Greater San Antonio All Stars.
Ongoing thru July 1— Summer enrichment
8 a.m. to noon weekdays at Huppertz Elementary School, 247 Bangor St.; Woodlawn Elementary School, 1717 W. Magnolia Ave.; and Woodlawn Hills Elementary School, 110 W. Quill Drive
Supervised academic and enrichment opportunities including art, guitar lessons, Zumba dance, martial arts and field trips – some of which will be centered around a theme - are offered in partnership with the Greater San Antonio All Stars.
Ongoing thru July 8 — Solar Robot Camp
9 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. at the Mission Verde Center at Cooper Academy, 1700 Tampico St.
Seventy-five SAISD students ranging from 4th-grade to middle-school level are learning how solar power works by building a variety of gadgets such as robots, cars, and boats. Field trips include visits to the solar-powered Pearl Stable, and the San Antonio Water System.

7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays at 12 SAISD schools
Supervised recreational opportunities are offered in partnership with the San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department’s Summer Youth Program.
Ongoing thru Aug. 5 — Summer recreation
7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays at Baskin Elementary School, 630 Crestview Drive
Supervised recreational opportunities are offered in partnership with the YMCA.
Ongoing thru Aug. 12 — SA Youth summer programs
8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at centers throughout San Antonio
Students from 11 SAISD schools are eligible for free learning opportunities and activities including technology, physical education, music, culture and arts, camping, swimming and other fun activities through SA Youth.
Ongoing thru Aug. 12 —Summer recreation
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Jefferson High School, 723 Donaldson Ave.; and Lanier High School, 1514 W. Durango Blvd.
Supervised recreational opportunities for teens are offered in partnership with the San Antonio Youth Centers.
Ongoing thru Aug. 19 * — ‘Seamless Summer Nutrition Program’
7 to 8 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. weekdays at 40 participating SAISD campuses
Free breakfast and lunch are served to anyone 18 years old and younger. The federally-funded nutrition program is available to districts like SAISD in which large numbers of students receive free meals during the school year. * Summer end dates vary by campus.
