June 5, 2009

June 5-6 — ‘GameOn.UTSA’
5 p.m. (Fri) to 2 p.m. (Sat) at the UTSA 1604 Campus, 1 UTSA Circle
Accompanied by their parents, SAISD 9th-graders have been invited to explore their prospective futures during an overnight visit to the University of Texas at San Antonio’s flagship campus. In addition to touring the school and taking part in college-readiness activities, students and parents will spend the night in dorm rooms. “GameOn.UTSA” is among ongoing real world experiences provided the District’s class of 2012 through GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs).

June 6 (Sat) — Scholastic chess tournament
8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Mission Academy, 9210 S. Presa St.
Future Bobby Fischers from throughout San Antonio will compete for fun and prizes.

June 10 (Wed) — Appreciation plaque presentation
1 p.m. at Wheatley Middle School, 415 Gabriel St.
Principal Mona Lopez, librarian Jane Cavazos and library assistant Beverly Warren will give a plaque to the Wheatley Alumni Association to say thank you for the group’s gift of $1,000 to purchase library books.

June 6-10 — Graduation ceremonies

These are just a sample of learning opportunities, and may be subject to change.
Parents are asked to contact their child’s school for more information.

June 9 thru July 13 — Driver education first session
7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Fox Tech High School, 637 N. Main Ave.
This course meets all state minimum requirements for young drivers of 32-classroom hours and includes seven hours in-car instruction, and seven hours observation.

June 9 thru July 13 — ‘Seamless Summer Nutrition Program’
7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
(times vary by site) at 31 campuses
Free breakfast and lunch are served to anyone 18 years old and younger.
The federally-funded nutrition program is available to districts like SAISD in which large numbers of students receive free meals during the school year.

 

June 9 thru July 16 (except Fridays) — High School Acceleration and Pre-AP
8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Fox Tech High School, 637 N. Main Ave.
Select academic subjects are offered at an accelerated pace to teens wanting a head start on the upcoming school year.
