Oct. 15 (Sat) — Annual Social Studies Fall Conference
8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. at the Education Service Center Region 20, 1314 Hines Ave.
Keynote speaker will be Lee Crockett, author of “Understanding the Digital Generation: Teaching and Learning in the New Digital Landscape.” The 11th-annual conference to include sessions, hands-on interactive lessons and exhibits is sponsored by SAISD’s Department of Social Studies.


Oct. 16 (Sun) — SAISD students to participate in GeoHunt

Starting 11 a.m. at Alamo Plaza, 300 Alamo Plaza
Sixth-graders from the District’s Austin Academy and Pershing Elementary 5th-graders will use GPS equipment to navigate themselves from Alamo Plaza to San Fernando Cathedral and back as part of a Young Professionals Group service project.YPG members are sponsoring GeoHunt while in town for the GEOINT 2011 Symposium as a way to get children excited about a future in geospatial intelligence.


Oct. 17 (Mon) — School Board meeting

5:30 p.m. at the Burnet Center, 406 Barrera St.


Oct. 20 (Thurs) — SAISD Foundation to award new teacher supply grants

5:30 p.m. at Twain Middle School, 2411 San Pedro Ave.
Nearly 100 first-year teachers will be awarded $200 grants each to purchase school supplies. Speakers will include SAISD Foundation Chair Carri Baker Wells and Superintendent Dr. Robert J. Durón.


Oct. 21 (Fri) — Radio Disney presents Healthy Living Around the Clock

9 a.m. at De Zavala Elementary School, 2311 San Luis St.
Representatives from the popular radio network Radio Disney AM 1160 will present health and fitness tips for students.
