Dec. 10 (Sat) — Tenth annual ‘Visit with Santa’
9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the SAISD Police Department, 1702 N. Alamo St.
Again this year St. Nick will make an early Alamo City appearance specially for approximately 300 pre-selected SAISD 3- to 9-year-olds. Youngsters will arrive throughout the day to meet and be photographed with the jolly old elf, receive gifts and enjoy refreshments. The majority of Santa’s stash for his annual special guest appearance was provided by toy drives at the District’s middle and high school campuses facilitated by the SAISD Police Department, event sponsor.

Dec. 10 (Sat) — SAISD students to participate in third annual Gingerbread Workshop 
10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (or while supplies last) at the Architecture Foundation of San Antonio, 200 E. Grayson St., suite 110
Aspiring architects from Jefferson High School will assist children in making and designing their very own edible creations.  The workshop - sponsored by the Architecture Foundation of San Antonio - is free and open to the public.
 
Dec.10 (Sat) — Eastside community block party
11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Sam Houston High School, 4635 E. Houston St.
City Year San Antonio teams from Sam Houston High School, Martin Luther King Academy and S.J. Davis and Wheatley middle schools will host this event to include activity tables, some with holiday-themed crafts, to engage guests and provide more information about the participating campuses. The party also will feature food, live music, resource and information tables from local agencies, a disc jockey, step and dance show and a dessert bake-off.
 
Dec. 13 (Tues) — Honoring our Heroes ceremony
10 a.m.  at Crockett Elementary, 2215 Morales St.
The life of Crockett’s own hero, the late Douglas Dever, who served as vice principal between 1993 and 2007, will be among those honored and his military honors flag given to the school. Details also will be provided about the Dever Society Legacy, and how the community can contribute. Last year, the Dever family presented the school $175,000 on his behalf and a $160,000 fund was set up through the SAISD Foundation to provide ongoing support to Crockett. Honorees will include Superintendent Dr. Robert J. Durón, retired Bexar County Court #5 Judge Timothy Johnson, former District 5 School Board member Tom Lopez and current District 5 Trustee Patti Radle. Other Trustees will be recognized.
 
Dec. 13 (Tue) — Healthy Eating for Healthy Families news conference
9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Hawthorne Academy, 115 W. Josephine St.
The news conference will announce a partnership with the Goldsbury Foundation, the San Antonio Food Bank and nine area schools - including three from SAISD – to fight childhood hunger. To do so, San Antonio Food Bank officials propose strategically increasing food distributions and advocating healthy eating curriculums for students. 
 
Dec. 13 (Tue) — School Board meeting
5:30 p.m. at the Burnet Center, 406 Barrera St.
 
Dec. 15 (Thurs) — CPS Christmas Toy Party
9 a.m. to noon at La Villita Assembly Hall, 401 Villita St.
Students from SAISD’s Brewer Elementary have been invited to this party, hosted by CPS, where Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus will present each child with a gift.
 
Dec. 15 (Thurs) — SAISD Social Studies History Fair
3 p.m. at the Trinity University Fiesta Room, 1 Trinity Place
Middle and high school student projects will be judged in five categories: exhibits; performances; documentaries; historical papers and websites. Exhibits will be open to the public starting at 3 p.m., with the awards ceremony to follow at 4. The 1st- and 2nd-place winners will qualify to advance to the San Antonio Regional History Fair, Feb. 24–25. 
 
Dec. 15 (Thurs) — ‘The Most Wonderful Time of the Year’ production
5:30 and 7:30 p.m. at Fox Tech High School, 637 N. Main Ave.
Members of Austin Academy’s choir, drama team and orchestra will present traditional holiday music. This in-district charter specializes in the performing and visual arts.

Dec. 15 (Thurs) — Holiday entertainment and dinner

5:30 p.m. at Herff Elementary, 996 S. Hackberry St.
Festivities will include music and a play, followed by tastes of the season that will feature food and beverages prepared by parents.

Dec. 16 (Fri) — Annual Shakespearean production

9 a.m. at Hawthorne Academy, 115 W. Josephine St.
This year’s performance by the school’s 8th-graders will be “Hamlet.” The annual December production of a William Shakespeare play is a holiday tradition at the in-district charter, which specializes in the national Core Knowledge curriculum and the visual arts.
 
Dec. 16 (Fri) — Visit from WellMed Santa Express
9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Brewer Elementary, 906 Merida St.
Every child will receive a stocking from Santa filled with treats, courtesy of the WellMed Clinic.
