May 28 (Mon) — Memorial Day
All SAISD schools and most departments will be closed.

May 29 (Tues) — San Antonio Spurs High Five Readers Challenge celebration
9 a.m. at Maverick Elementary School, 107 Raleigh Place at Babcock Road
The Spurs Coyote will lead a pep rally for 3rd-graders as a reward for winning this four-week NBA contest by reading the required number of books for their grade level. 

May 29 (Tues) — Middle School Partners end-of-year celebration
6 p.m. at Brackenridge High School, 400 Eagleland Drive at South St. Mary’s Street
Students will receive medals for their success in this program through which former 8th-graders who had been retained at least one grade will catch up with their classmates in high school this fall as mid-term freshmen or sophomores. Under the program, participating students spend half their school day on 8th-grade core subjects and the remainder online working on their high school courses. 

May 29 thru June 1 — SAISD Elementary School Choral Festival
9:30 a.m. at Edison High School, 701 Santa Monica Drive near Blanco Road
This annual musical extravaganza features performances by students Districtwide.

May 30 (Wed) — ‘Photoality’ artwork unveiling
4 p.m. at Irving Middle School, 1300 Delgado St.
A 12-by-8-foot compilation of student photos of their neighborhoods taken with cameras they made will be unveiled. The masterpiece was created in collaboration with artist Mari Hernandez and Artpace San Antonio as part of the 8th-Grade Partners Program.

May 30 (Wed) — Rising Star New Teacher Award ceremony
4:30 p.m. at Jefferson High School, 723 Donaldson Ave.
Awards will be presented to outstanding first-year educators representing the levels of pre-kinder, elementary, middle and high school. Honorees are chosen from nominees selected by their principals and receive trophies and vouchers for school supplies.

May 30 (Wed) — City Council to recognize Lanier High School students
5 p.m. at San Antonio City Hall, 100 Military Plaza
Brandon Mojica and Joyce Paez - two of four SAISD seniors to earn full college funding through the Ph.D. level as Gates Millennium Scholars – will be honored. Both are alumni of the Rhodes Middle School Young Achievers Program of the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio, and the recognition was recommended by District 4 City Councilmember Rey Saldaña, one of the group’s mentors.

May 30 (Wed) — A Night of Champions
6:30 p.m. at the Alamo Convocation Center, 110 Tuleta Drive next to Alamo Stadium
In the spotlight will be championship teams and outstanding individual athletes from throughout SAISD.

May 31 (Thurs) — Magnet Open House
6:30 p.m. at Fox Tech High School, 637 N. Main Ave.
Students interested in careers in the health and law professions and their parents are invited to check out the opportunities available through the school’s Magnet programs.

June 1 (Fri) — Career Day
Starting at 8:30 a.m. at Ball Elementary School, 343 Koehler Court
Presenters will represent a wide variety of professions for students to consider.

June 1 (Fri) — Gamma Sigma Girls closing ceremony
6 p.m. at Jefferson High School, 723 Donaldson Ave.
The ceremony will celebrate the end-of-the-school year for participants of this new Girls Scouts of America organization. In 2010 SAISD was selected to pilot Gamma Sigma Girls, which comprises young women from the District’s high schools.
