SAISD continues to host free summer meals program

SAISD continues to host free summer meals program

San Antonio, June 7, 2012 – Once again, thousands of students who depend on free breakfast and lunch at school as their main source of nutrition can continue to enjoy these meals at no charge during the summer.

As part of the Texas Department of Agriculture’s Seamless Summer Nutrition Program, SAISD campuses hosting summer school programs will offer anyone 18 years old and younger one breakfast and one lunch weekdays through Aug. 17, free of charge, regardless of ability to pay. Serving times are 7 to 8 a.m. for breakfast and 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for lunch.

The Seamless Summer Nutrition Program is required by law in Districts with a large demographic of students who qualify for free meals. No application is required and all participants are eligible regardless of whether they are enrolled in a summer program.

“The federally-funded program enables children to receive nutritious meals throughout the summer,” said SAISD’s Senior Executive Director of Food and Child Nutrition Services Sally Cody.  “Regular and appropriate nutrition is very important for the physical, emotional, and mental growth of a child.”

The list of host schools and dates during which meals will be served at each follows.
