Back-to-school: Registration, immunizations and more

The first day of classes for the 2012-13 school year is Aug. 27. The information below is designed to make the back-to-school transition smoother.

Parents/guardians must register their child at their home campus (or the transfer school they attended last year and will continue at this school year).

Pre-kindergarten

  • Eligibility requirements
  1. 3 or 4 years old on or before September 1, 2012 (4-year-olds will be given first priority; 3-year-olds will be admitted only if space is available after all eligible 4-year-olds have been admitted.)
  2. Must live within SAISD boundaries
  3. Child must qualify for the Pre-K program (see flyer below for details)
      
  • Required documents
  1. Proof of income: most current paycheck stub (three stubs if overtime is indicated)
  2. TANF or SNAP current award letter
  3. Certified copy of original birth certificate
  4. Child’s Social Security card
  5. Photo ID of parent/guardian registering the child
  6. Child’s current immunization record (required immunizations and immunization clinics)
  7. Proof of guardianship, if applicable (foster letter, Child Protective Services paperwork)
  8. Proof of residence (electric or water bill, apartment lease, etc.)    
  • Staff will review the applications during the summer to verify eligibility and will notify parents of their child’s acceptance.

  1. Parent’s photo ID (driver’s license, military ID, etc.)
  2. Certified copy of child’s birth certificate
  3. Child’s social security card
  4. Recent academic records
  5. Proof of residence in SAISD (electric or water bill, home phone bill or lease agreement)
  6. Up-to-date immunization records (required immunizations and immunization clinics)

Immunizations

Students are required by law to have immunizations and those who have not received the necessary immunizations will not be allowed to register. Uniforms

All SAISD students must be attired in a uniform of khaki pants, shorts, skorts or skirt, and a white top or alternate school-approved colored shirt. You may also review the 2012-13 guidelines here. Complete details will be included in the Parent-Student Handbook that is available upon request or online


Meals

Breakfast and lunch are available daily at all schools. Menus are planned by registered dietitians and nutritionists who follow United States Department of Agriculture guidelines. Breakfast is free for all SAISD students, regardless of income. Students may qualify for free- or reduced-price lunch by completing the Free/Reduced Meal Application, which will be available at schools during the time of registration and throughout the school year.

Pre-K and elementary - $1.90  

Secondary (grades 6-12)   $2.15

Parent-Student Handbook

The District’s processes and procedures are contained in the Parent-Student Handbook, which includes the Student Code of Conduct. The handbook is available online and printed copies are available upon request. Please contact the school principal if you have any questions that are not addressed in the handbook.


Afterschool programs

Afterschool programs offer a mix of academic and physical activities for students on campus after the regular school day, up until 6 p.m. All of the District’s elementary schools, and most middle schools, offer an afterschool program in partnership with a number of community organizations.
