More: In just the second week of the new school year youngsters at this East Side campus already have cause for celebration. Thanks to a more than $72,000 donation from the Charity Ball Association, students can enjoy two new age-appropriate playgrounds. The funding is the largest amount to date given to the SAISD Foundation through a single agency.
Accepting the gift on behalf of the school will be principal Phyllis Foley-Davis and student speakers. Anticipated special guests include Kelly Cavender, Charity Ball Association vice president of charities; Carri Baker Wells and Leo Gomez, chairman and vice chairman, respectively, of the SAISD Foundation; a representative for District 120 State Rep. Ruth Jones McLendon; SAISD Trustee James Howard and Councilmember Ivy Taylor, both representatives of their respective districts 2; representatives from the East Side Promise Neighborhood; United Way; and select parents.
