National Academic Bowl Championship



The Jefferson Army JROTC is among just 24 nationwide and one of only three San Antonio teams advancing to the 2013 National Academic Bowl Championship from June 21 to June 25 at Washington, D.C.’s George Mason University. The Jefferson team of four talented cadets bested more than 1,500 competitors worldwide to qualify for the contest, which is designed to prepare them for the rigors of college.


In Washington, teams will vie in a minimum of 10 rounds of competition using buzzers in a “college bowl” game. The winner will go on to compete at the JROTC Tri-Service Academic Bowl against the victors of the Air Force JROTC and Navy JROTC academic bowls.


Jefferson is advancing to the National Academic Bowl Championship based upon the team’s top scores in two previous contests that were conducted online.


The Academic Bowl is a nationally recognized academic competition created exclusively for JROTC students. By participating, cadets learn the values of citizenship, academic competition and college opportunity. Offered in partnership with the College Options Foundation, the bowl’s goals include preparing students for state exit/graduation exams as well as college entrance exams, such as the SAT and ACT.
