Herff ES students will kick off the next round of STAAR testing American Idol style, with a surprise performance by Cristabel Clack, a former Idol contestant from this season.

Principal Traci Smith will host a mock audition during an assembly meant to motivate the school’s 3rd- through 5th-graders to reach for the stars during the next round of state testing, which begins Tuesday, April 23.

During the event, Smith, her administrative assistant and Clack will “audition” for a spot on “STAAR Idol.” After winning the round, Clack, whose children attend the school, will close the event with a rendition of Whitney Houston’s “Greatest Love of All.”

Clack made it through to become one of the Top 20 female contestants before being eliminated in the “sudden death” round of the popular Fox television reality show during the season currently underway, Season 12.

After the event, students in lower grades at the school will line the halls to cheer on their older classmates as further encouragement for the test.
