July 13 (Sat) — SAISD students to volunteer at tour of green homes
8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the addresses listed below
Jefferson High School architecture students will serve as tour guides at Lavaca neighborhood houses that are part of the 2013 Build San Antonio Green Home Tour. These environmentally-friendly, energy-efficient homes are at:
● 206 Devine St.
● 107 Leigh St.
● 215 Vance St.
July 13 (Sat) — GEAR UP Roller Coaster Builder
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (2:30 to 3 p.m. best photo op) at the Good Samaritan Community Center, 1600 Saltillo St.
The STEM fields of science, technology, engineering and math will come to life for about 40 students through the building of a miniature roller coaster. They will learn the physics behind the steep inclines and death-defying loops while understanding the mechanics of how roller coasters work. This program offered in partnership with the University of Texas at San Antonio and the UTSA Interactive Technology Experience Center is the first of three to be held in July.

July 16 (Tues) — AVID Summer Institute General Session to feature SAISD employee
4 to 5 p.m. at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center Grand Ballroom C, 200 E. Market St.
Lanier High School Advancement Via Individual Determination teacher Marc Mendoza has been invited to speak at this national conference on the AVID college-prep program.
