Sept. 7 (Sat) — Annual SAISD Fall Bilingual Symposium

8 a.m. to 12:35 p.m. at Burbank High School, 1002 Edwards St.
Starting at 7 a.m. early arrivers may network over breakfast in the cafeteria. Participants - SAISD Bilingual/English as a Second Language educators – will have an opportunity to visit with vendors, view instructional materials and attend a variety of professional learning sessions. Keynote speaker will be Emilio Castro, SAISD deputy superintendent of teaching and learning.

Sept.  9 (Mon) — School Board meeting
5:30 p.m. at the Burnet Center, 406 Barrera St.

Sept. 11 (Wed) — SAISD campus to host USHLI Student Leadership Summit launch
9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Lanier High School, 1514 W. César E. Chávez Blvd.
The United States Hispanic Leadership Institute’s Student Leadership Summit will include a career and college recruitment fair and guest speaker Carlos Ojeda Jr., president of CoolSpeak, a youth engagement organization designed to get students inspired, parents involved and teachers engaged in keeping teens in school. The Lanier launch will precede events to be held at 12 SAISD middle schools on Sept. 12 and 13. USHLI is a Chicago-based nonprofit founded in 1982 with a mission to promote education, leadership development, research and civic participation.

      ● 9 a.m. at Wheatley Middle School, 415 Gabriel St.
      ● 10:45 a.m. at Connell Middle School, 400 Hot Wells Blvd.
     ● 10:45 a.m. at Tafolla Middle School, 1303 W. César E. Chávez Blvd.
      ● 2 p.m. at Rhodes Middle School, 3000 Tampico St.
      ● 2 p.m. at Lowell Middle School, 919 Thompson Place

      ● 2 p.m. at Poe Middle School, 814 Aransas Ave.

Sept. 14 (Sat) — Changing Gears bicycle rally
10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Burbank High School, 1002 Edwards St.
The community is invited to this event promoting health and fitness through proper nutrition and exercise, such as bike riding. Freebies will include bike repairs and T-shirts for the first 50 bike riders. There also will be door prizes, good food and bike registration. Event sponsors are the Burbank Bulldog Cycle Dawgs, SAISD and other organizations.
