What: All SAISD elementary students swinging their way to a lifetime of benefits thanks to The First Tee golf program
When: Oct. 10 (Thursday), 2:30-3:15 p.m.
Where: Mission Academy, 9210 S. Presa St.
A sport typically limited to high school, golf now is being taught to all SAISD elementary-age students. But not only are students in The First Tee program learning how to drive, chip and putt, they also are being equipped with valuable lessons to last a lifetime.
On Thursday, students at Mission Academy will grab a club and work on honing their skills in the school gym, with a golf simulator to aid them.
Thanks to support from The First Tee of San Antonio, the District was able to expand the national junior golf program to 18 additional campuses this year, putting it in all 58 elementary schools and academies.
As described on its website, The First Tee seeks to impact the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf. The program includes a seamless health and wellness component, as well as instruction in the program’s nine core values: honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy, judgment.
Students will practice their newly acquired skills at city golf courses.
