More: In keeping with this year’s theme, “Every Child Needs a Champion,” SAISD is presenting a Parent Summit packed with helpful strategies and tips that will help parents attain — or maintain — their Champion status.The half-day conference will include speakers and breakout sessions designed to motivate, inspire and inform parents, who will be able to participate in two 45-minute breakout sessions that offer an array of topics. Superintendent Dr. Sylvester Perez will provide the welcome at 9 a.m.
Among the breakout sessions:
10:40 a.m.-11:25 p.m. – “Nurturing the Scientist In You!” Parents will work through difficult science concepts to learn how they can help their children understand this often-challenging subject. (Elm Room)
10:40-11:25 a.m. – “Uncommon Solutions to Common Parenting Challenges” Mother, certified teacher and parent educator will give a humorous presentation on how to thrive in being a parent. (Magnolia Room)
11:35 a.m.-12:20 p.m. – “Hands-On History” Parents will learn tips for helping their children to understand social studies concepts through literacy and hands-on activities. (Pecan Room)
11:35 a.m.-12:20 p.m. – “World’s Greatest Parent” Backed by studies that show that parents have greater influence over their child’s behavior than their child’s friends do, this session will teach parents how they can be that positive role model and create a champion child. (Red Oak Ballroom A)
