Fans of this landmark West Side school long known for their love and loyalty soon will have even more to cheer about AND double the means to express their enthusiasm. In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, School Board Member Patti Radle, whose District 5 represents the Lanier community, proposed a Spanish cheer contest. Competition began last week and will conclude at Friday morning’s pep rally when the winning cheer will be determined by loudest student applause.
The contest was open to all students, who were allowed to enter as either an individual or as a group. The creator or creators of the cheer determined to be the crowd favorite will receive $100 from Radle. It will make its debut as the official Voks Spanish cheer at Friday evening’s football game with in-District rivals, the Owls of Highlands High School.
