Where: Douglass Elementary School, 318 Martin Luther King Drive
In the school auditorium
This landmark East Side campus is participating in the Million Father March initiative, sponsored by the Chicago-based Black Star project, by inviting fathers and other men in students’ lives to make a commitment to the educational lives of their children with their presence at a school. Fathers are asked to bring their child to school and to volunteer 10 hours per year at the campus.
This endeavor is in recognition of research showing that children whose fathers take an active role in their education and in their lives do better in school, have fewer behavior problems and are more likely to graduate from high school and go to college.
Women also are welcome to participate.
